I was talking with a friend yesterday about the iPhone - that miraculous piece of technology that
inspires unparalleled cynicism and derision until you actually lay your hands on it, at which point you begin immediately calculating the number of days left on your existing cell phone contract. "The one drawback," I said, "is that you can't use it with gloves. By the time you get the thing out of your pocket and take one glove off, you've already missed the call."
We discussed all sorts of possible solutions - special iPhone gloves with a velcro-hinged fingertip, conductive fingertip materials, a special conductive stylus - before realizing that more enterprising folks have probably already solved these problems. And indeed, a quick search for "iphone gloves" reveals that such a thing does exist, despite the fact that just months before they were sold as sailing gloves (to make it easier to tie knots). There's also an iPhone stylus, and I would wager that a fair number of people have cut the fingertips off of gloves as a homebrew solution.
I mentioned this all to my girlfriend - also an iPhone owner - who laughed and said, "Oh really? I just use my nose."
