Meet the Candidates

If there’s anything we’ve learned from the last 50 years, it’s that television is a much better format for entertainment than it is for disseminating complex ideas. Awesome.Holding true to that standard, FATV.org has kindly posted a video featuring 5 minute speeches from various candidates involved in the upcoming preliminary election. If you haven’t yet acquainted yourself with these folks, this is an excellent opportunity to evaluate their reading and memorization skills:

Kenneth Biagoni (Ward 4) 0:01 – 4:47
Steve Seney (Ward 4) 4:48 – 8:47
Kevin Starr (Ward 4) 8:48 – 12:11
Yvette Cooks (School Committee) 12:12 – 17:06
Jim Reynolds (School Committee) 17:07 – 21:44
Peter Stephens (School Committee) 21:45 – 26:49
Ronald Dionne (Mayor) 26:59 – 31:08
Ted Desalvatore (Mayor) 31:09 – 36:10
Tom Donnelly (Mayor) 36:11 – 39:47
Lisa Wong (Mayor) 39:48 – 44:34

The clips range from fun to boring to creepy to vaguely disconcerting (in no particular order), and few offer little more than ambiguous campaign doublespeak. If you're looking for substance on issues, you'd be better off checking out each candidate's website (although in some cases, not so much). Regardless, it’s still a good opportunity to put faces to names - and it's fantastic that FATV has gone to the trouble of posting these videos online for those who don't have cable.
