We're living in scary times. Apparently very scary times, as related in a story in yesterday's Sentinel.
The thrilling tale is entitled Unknown object causes explosion; could be tinfoil bomb, according to police.
Holy crap, an EXPLOSION! A tinfoil BOMB! Scary!
To quote:
A family inside the house in the 400 block of Rollstone Street told police they heard a loud bang around 9 p.m. Tuesday night, [Police Capt. Charles] Tasca said.
The family went outside to see what happened and discovered a large ball of tinfoil at the side of the house, Tasca said.
If that's not dramatic, I don't know what is! Tinfoil-wielding terrorists hate our freedom!
Of course it likely wasn't tinfoil. It was probably aluminum foil, which when mixed with something that contains sodium hydroxide (like Drano, for instance) produces hydrogen gas. Close it up in a plastic bottle, wait awhile, and the pressure will build up until the bottle ruptures, indeed making "a loud bang". And um, not really doing anything else.
Still, terror!
Is this the start of a trend of Guy Fawkes / Al Qaeda wannabes attacking the town? Signs point to yes.
What's their next step? A baking soda and vinegar IED? Diet Coke and Mentos land mines? Balloon-based WMDs? Inflating a paper bag and popping it while your back is turned? Only time will tell!
Shocking video evidence of similar terrorist acts after the jump!
